Christian World Views: The Practical Ethical Worldview

Almost four months ago, at the beginning of this class, I said that the main influence of my worldview were the experiences that I had along my young life. Four months later I still hold to that idea. However, I do believe that the contents of this class enriched my point of view in a way that did not affect the original ideas that form my worldview. Over the last four month, my worldview did not change, it just got more accurate. I always identified myself as an open-minded person with solid ethical bases. Nevertheless, I permanently acknowledged that I am still very young to know every absolute truth in this world. For these reasons, I call myself an ongoing learner, not just in college, but in life. I believe in what I call a “Practical Ethics”. This world view is based a Christian world view, but it does not have the Bible as its only source of knowledge and reason. This perspective of life does not possess many rules, because it gives more importance to the reason that to the action itself. Some worldviews have very stiff rules that do not allow deviations. As consequence of this strict regulations, many ethical problems arise. It agrees with the Therapeutic Moralistic Deism in the fact that God wants us to be nice to others and succeed in our lives. However, it disagrees with the Therapeutic view of the problems in the world, while this approach says that there is no serious problem in the world because we are all going to heaven without considering what we do on earth, the Practical Ethics point of view states that there is a serious problem in this world.
