Ethics is a strong topic among society today. What is important to some people may have little or no value to others. A person with a Christian worldview would base their ethical dilemma on their beliefs and the instructions that God’s word says. This paper will explain how Joni, who is living her life as a quadriplegic and desires to legally terminate her own life will see the way the Christian worldview bases this ethical dilemma on following the commandments given by God and which decision is correct for her. Humanity was created in his image and likeness and we are his only creation that he breathed the breath of life into (Genesis 1:26, 2:7, English Standard Version). God desires for each of his children to have a loving and personal relationship with him so that we grow to trust him and he is able to help us through our pain and suffering. If he did not place suffering in our lives than we would not have any reason to trust him or realize the love he has for us (DiVincenzo, 2015). He gave humanity commandments that we are to follow and one of those is “you shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). All life is a gift from God, he gives and he takes away. God gave us our lives, so we do not have the right to decide when to end it. This would be considered murder, and therefore breaking one of the Ten Commandments. She will be taught how God created each of us in his image, how he allows suffering and pain in our lives, and how each person is to serve each other. She would be shown the love that God has for her and that he considers her life, no matter what the condition may be, that it is very precious to him. She will also be able to see how her family does not view her condition as a burden to them and that they would do all things possible to keep her in their lives. According to the Christian worldview Joni should act like her life is a gift from God and praise him for all that he currently provides in her life. She is surrounded by family that loves her and takes care of her needs, and even though her quality of life has diminished she is still capable of doing great deeds in the name of Jesus Christ. She would be able to lead others, especially those in her same condition to a life of hope, faith, love, and courage that God has provided her with to live her life to the fullest (DiVincenzo, 2015). As a Christian she will learn the saving grace of Jesus Christ by placing her faith in him.
