Research is pivotal to the safe and effective practice of medicine. As new developments arise, approaches to medicine and our understanding of normal human biology require more sophisticated processes. With this increased recognition, has too been the addition of external influences, such as psychological, religious and social components of health and illness not previously seen. Although the essence of research study has taken a predominately scientific worldview, there is also a biblical imperative to consider.
Merriam-Webster defines worldview as a comprehensive conception of the world for a specific standpoint (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). These systems help the individual understand reality and is the basis for making decisions. Each individual

Firstly, there is but one God, and one mediator between God and mankind, the man is Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5 NIV). Secondly, God Himself has redeemed the world through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Him, will receive everlasting life (John 3:16). Lastly, we are to proclaim the word which is in our mouth and in our hearts to others, and we will be saved (Romans 10:8-9). These principles influence the actions of many working for the health and well-being of others worldwide and are accomplished in the name of Christ, as a demonstrative way of communicating a worldview.
As study investigators, nurses are part of a clinical research team, which examine new ways to prevent, identify, or treat disease. Therapies might include, new medications, new clinical processes or innovative ways to implement existing treatments. A Christian worldview requires the nurse to examine their understanding of the Bible and his or her relationship with God.
