Benchmark - Gospel Essentials
Everyone has a worldview, a set of beliefs on how you view your world, whether you are Christian, Atheist or Mormon, or none of these. Your worldview determines the basis on how you view your own reality; it is a lens by which you look at your world, and the moral values you have adopted. Your worldview determines what you believe about God, marriage, raising children, type of food you eat, politics, to name a few. In the Christian worldview, there are several essential aspects from the gospel that help those who have a Christian worldview formulate their understanding and belief in this view. These gospel essentials include; there is one creator, God, who by his hand created the universe and humanity, man in his own image, gave his son Jesus to save mankind, and has promised everlasting life to those who believe in him and live by his word.

When God created mankind, He told them that they could eat from any tree in the Garden of Eden except for the one in the center, the tree of knowledge of good and evil. In the garden Eve, man’s partner, was tempted by Satan to eat from the tree of knowledge. Eve convinced Adam to eat from the tree of knowledge, going against God’s wishes. This is the first time man sinned, went against God’s wishes; this created the fall of mankind. From this action by man, the future of mankind basically became sinners by association. Man was initially created to have a good relationship with God, but by his actions, he severed that relationship. Humans were created during creation by God to worship God. When man was created, God provided for him. Man’s purpose was to have dominion over God’s creation (Genesis 1:28). As a result of humanity’s fall, God sent his son Jesus for atonement, the second person in the
