How Did Christianity Rise And Spread Within The Roman Empire ? Christianity originated in the eastern Roman Empire in the first century A.D.. A Monotheistic religion, meaning the belief in one god. Founder by the name of Saul Of Tarsus (St.Paul), and later lead by a man named Jesus Christ said to be the son of god, spreading a message of peace, love , and forgiveness. For two centuries Christianity spread rapidly among the poor or to those looking for a more emotional and content form of religion. The people of the Roman Empire had many insecurities .They turned to the religion of Christianity, It offered love and equality to all people .The empire had lost faith and were seeking individual salvation. Before battle it was said that Constantine prayed for help and saw an image of a cross , then ordering his soldiers to wear a cross on their shield. As Christianity became the height of all religions, it developed its own structure . At a local level, a priest lead each small group of Christians . A Bishop who was also a priest, supervised those local churches. An apostle, one of Jesus leading followers believed to have traveled to Rome from Jerusalem to become the first bishop. Peter was referred to as the rock of Christian Churches. There he became the head of all bishops, which had lead him to become the first pope. When Christianity grew , there had become disagreements about the belief among its followers . Their leaders did everything in their power to convince its followers , from the old and new testament , that humans needed the grace of God to be saved to live a better life .
