Religion has existed since the beginning of time. Thousands have dissolved over time, and major ones have remained for thousands of years. Non-religious people see religions as all the same. But there are multitudes of differences between all religions that cannot be missed. Islam and Christianity are major Western religions. Islam and Christianity differ in their treatment and view of women, the way to earn salvation, and religious leaders. But first there needs to be knowledge on the basics of both religions. Islam is one of the newer religions out major Western religions. It is considered a Judeo-Christian religion, meaning they claim to be following the same God whom they call Allah. The religion of Islam began from an Arab named Muhammad. He spread his new way of perceiving God to his people in the Middle East. Muslims are required to follow the five pillars: citing a statement of faith at least once in their life, practice a daily ritual of prayer five times a day, hep those who are poor, fast during the month of Ramadan, and make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once during their life. Following these rules will make the followers good Muslims. The Islam faith is divided into two major denominations: the Sunni and Shiite.
