11) The title of my book is Crash. This is a good title because it captures the overall feeling of the story. The main character suffers through a traumatic vision that eventually is all she can think about. The vision ends up taking over her life, causing her to “crash” or shut down. She is unable to make the vision go away, which causes her to act out of the ordinary, so her friends and family begin to worry.
'Across Five Aprils' is a novel written by Irene Hunt that takes place on the farm of Creighton's family in southern Illinois during the American Civil War. This book extends five Aprils from 1861 to 1865.The American Civil war was happening between the Union and the Confederate Army. The American war is breaking families apart because of the disagreement of the concept of war. When the war begins, Creighton's son, Jethro sees that the war may be dividing north and the south from each other but also dividing people between his family. It wasn't what Jethro imagine the war would be like.
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines childhood as “The early period in the development of something.” For some children their childhood is idyllic and some of the best, most carefree years of their life. Unfortunately, one cannot control their childhood. Many children who grow up with parents that are in and out of jail, alcoholics and or drug addicts, grow up to be just like them.
Year of Wonders is set in Eyam, an actual village which was located in Derbyshire, England. Also known as the "plague village" for an outbreak of the Bubonic Plague in 1665 and 1666, the story of Year of Wonders is based off of this event. At the beginning of the book, Anna Frith is introduced to the readers as a house maid, mother of two young sons, and the narrator. Although she isn't a historical figure, through her eyes, the readers get to get an insight on what it was like living in the midst of a plague. As the story starts out, Anna is faced with the struggle of watching her friends (Anys and Mem) being accused by mobs of being witches because they are midwives who deliver newborns and use charms and herbs to heal the sick.

When society thinks of the word “childhood,” they imagine it as a precious time for children to be in school and freely play, to grow and learn with the love and support from people dear to their hearts. It is also known to be a cherished period where children are to be innocent and live carefree from fear. However, in the context of The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, childhood is viewed as a tough hardship that Jeannette and her siblings have overcame, and the memories they carry has greatly impacted their lives that it has molded them to who they are
When analyzing and reviewing Susan Curealean’s essay "Origin Moment” and Melissa Walker’s excerpt from "Rock Spring" one will find commonalities of elements that truly show the importance of our first connection with nature. The reader is able to see that one’s origin moment, “the spilt second early in life when memory takes hold in the body,” of nature specifically concludes in defining who the person is as an individual and how they view the environment around them, as well as how they take care of that particular environment. The open window and the independence Louise Mallard is experiencing is a forbidden pleasure that represents her way of new life and opportunity. The life of Louise Mallard was always been in control by his husband and she never gets any freedom until the news she receive about the death of his husband Brentley Mallard. Mrs. Mallard reaction to the death of her husband was “She wept at once,” this describe how she felt when they told her about his husband was “killed” (Para 2, Line 6), she felt as she was hopeless and not herself anymore and that she will always be the wife material of Brentley Mallard.
In the beginning of the story, Alice leaves her ordinary world and falls down a rabbit hole. This marks the beginning of a road of strange adventures ahead of her. The adventure begins with Alice and her sister, sitting by the riverbank. The rabbit was muttering something to itself and Alice was curious. Then, the rabbit went down a rabbit hole and “In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again.”
In the House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, the characters each have their own struggles that they must overcome. One of the main traits that separate characters is that who overcomes their struggles and who gives in to them. People should endeavor to make a change in their lives because life is too short to give in to a struggle. Esperanza points out her house to a nun and because Esperanza's house is on the low end the nun makes an insulting remark, Esperanza " knew then I had to have a house. A real house.

In the textbook Let's Talk written by Andrea Lunsford, new ideas and habits are introduced that will help people learn how to communicate better and interact with others. The first four chapters revealed concepts that were used by the authors of the following readings: "Arranging a Marriage in India," "Your Smartphone is making you stupid," and "Small Change". The concept that influenced the understanding of “Arranging a Marriage in India” is to get to know people different from you. Next, the concept that influenced the understanding in “Your Smartphone is making you stupid” is to research your views. Lastly, the concept that increased understanding of “Small Change” was to listen when people express their views.
'Alice in Wonderland ' by Lewis Carroll is a novel that criticizes the way children were brought up during the Victorian society. Carroll presents the readers with the difficulties these offspring must endure in order to develop their own personalities/egos, as they become adults. For Alice, Wonderland appears to be the perfect place to start this learning adventure. A way to see her story is compering it to the world as if being upside-down. The first lesson Alice must learn in this peculiar journey through Wonderland is to achieve separation from the world around her and to stop identifying herself through others, in order to discover who she really is and who she wants to become in the future.
In the short story, “The Flowers” by Alice Walker shows the main character Myop matures by facing the true nature of the world. Myop, the protagonist finds herself looking down at the body whose head is apart from the body. The author's use of the dead body propels character development by Myop seeing the nature of the world which she had not seen before. Myop laid her flowers and her summer was over. The dead body is the literary device in the text; the dead body is shown to reveal that Myop's innocence is gone.
