“… “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you shall give Him the name Jesus” Luke 1: 30 – 31. And when Joseph was troubled because Mary was pregnant, God sent an angel to encourage him in a dream, reminding him of Isaiah’s prophecy in Isaiah 7: 14. “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” Matthew 1: 23. In Matthew 2: 1 – 2, the Lord Jesus Christ is born in the town of Bethlehem, the city of David fulfilling all the prophecies about His birth. “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” Also, Luke 2: 8 – 20 records how the Shepherds learn about the birth of the Lord from an angel. Verse 20 specifically states, “The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.” This is the essence of Christmas. It is a celebration meant to glorify and praise God
