Christopher Boone, a autistic character with asperger's syndrome from the book The
Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night-Time by Mark Haddon is meant to be a representation of real autistic people. It is debatable whether or not it truly imitates a real autistic person.
Christopher does clearly show symptoms of asperger syndrome, for example one of the symptoms listed is the “inability to understand social/emotional issues or non literal phrases” (autismspeaks.org). Christopher shows this a lot when we see him interacting with others, for example he doesn’t seem to understand when his father is starting/angry with him. He even tells us himself “This will not be a funny book. I cannot tell jokes because I do not understand them.”
