Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who navigated from Spain and across the Atlantic Ocean. He was born in Genoa, Italy on October 31, 1451 and passed away in Valladolid, Spain on May 20, 1506. He went on four voyages throughout his lifetime, the first one was in 1492, the second was in 1493, the third one was in 1498, and his final voyage was in 1502. On his voyages, he took with him helpful items such as an astrolabe, a telescope, a map and a compass. According to Dictionary.com, an astrolabe is “an astronomical instrument for taking the altitude of the sun or stars”. By checking the weather before starting his voyage he could have avoided going through rough weather conditions such as heavy storms. A cell phone could also have helped Columbus get to his destination in a faster amount of time by going through short cuts. He could have also looked up safety precautions to take on his trip and being able to communicate with others back home. Throughout his trip and once arriving on land, he could have sent pictures and videos of his surroundings and text messages with information on what he saw. By having a GPS system with him, he could have searched for resting areas along his route and islands or other countries where he could find food. This type of system also provides information on places around him where he could stop to pump fuel on his ship or do any necessary repairs on it. This device could have helped Columbus find quicker routes to get to his destination faster, could have provided food locations, and being able to locate where he was at. He could have also stopped by at different countries on the way to explore and be able to get back on track without getting lost, thanks to this device. The compass that he took could have helped, but this is a most helpful piece of technology that would have guaranteed that he would not get
