I suffer from chronic migraines and hemiplegic migraines. The two are separate conditions. I have suffered from these since 2007, and despite years of different medications and dosages, nothing has worked. Neither I nor my doctors or neurologists have any idea what causes the hemiplegic or the chronic migraines. During a chronic migraine, I am in agonising pain. The pain is overwhelming and I am unable to concentrate on anything else. I am not able to stand, or think, or perform even the simplest of tasks. I cannot communicate simple information. Chronic migraines usually last for over 12 hours at a time. There is no medication that causes relief. The chronic migraines will start gradually, they will begin as head pain and gradually worsen to a point where I have to shut down completely. The "beginning" phase can sometimes last for many hours, and I am not including this "phase" in the "12 hour" figure. This figure refers to the amount of time during which I am in overwhelming, agonising pain. The chronic migraines will generally occur everyday, and often more than that if they start quickly. Once I have one, I will generally keep having them for days and sometimes weeks at a time. They start very suddenly, as blind spots in the corner of my vision. The blind spot will move to the centre of my vision and I will become completely blind in one eye, and with blind spots in the other eye. During this time, the paralysis is setting in over one half of my body. This includes things like one half of my tongue, and the inside of my mouth. The excruciating pain is also beginning to start during this time, and within a few minutes it has completely overwhelmed me.
