The Great Depression left everyone in shambles. This was an economic crisis and period of low business activity in the U.S. Beginning with the stock-market crash in October, 1929. After watching Cinderella Man, we learned that this economic drop caused James J. Braddock, a famous boxer before the crash, to lose everything. Yet, later gave citizen hope that times would get better.
In many modern fairytales, ie. Disney’s Cinderella, we are used to seeing beautiful and perfect princesses who have been placed into difficult situations. In the story Revenge by Isabel Allende, we follow the life events of Dulce Rosa, the daughter of Orellano. In the first paragraph of the story we are introduced to what is described as Dulce Rosa’s exaggerated beauty. But why exaggerate Dulce Rosa’s beauty for seemingly no reason?
Cinderella’s Evil Stepmother Cinderella's step mother is mean because she cares about her own daughter more than Cinderella, she makes Cinderella do all the chores in the house, and she doesn't let Cinderella be happy. Her Stepmother makes Cinderella do all of the chores, even the chores her stepsisters are meant to do. Lady Tremaine (Cinderella’s stepmother) takes pride of her own daughter but not Cinderella. Lady Tremaine keeps Cinderella from being happy by not granting her permission to the ball. With these facts, you can now begin to see why Lady Tremaine cares more about her own daughters then Cinderella.
Cinderella did end up marrying the prince. And of course, she enjoyed it, with the lavish lifestyle and the gifts and attention from Prince Charming, but the simple fact was that Cinderella’s family had not been royal, and the royal life meant doing nothing much of the time. Therefore, months into her marriage to the prince, Cinderella had grown bored of even her new skills of horse riding and the upper-class style of sewing. She was used to cleaning, cooking, and mending filling her days, and on top of culture shock and boredom, she had to regularly endure the prince’s attentions towards many of the young handmaids and ‘pureblood’ royal-born noblewomen. So Cinderella filled her days with reading anything she could get her hands on, which is how she stumbled upon the heavy, royal history tomes.
She longs for love and affection. She finds it when at the ball, but when she has to leave, she leaves in a hurry and one of the slippers that she is wearing gets left behind at the ball and the Prince finds and starts to look for her. Even though they were separated for short periods of time they still find each other in the end. The Prince takes her to his palace and they get married. This general plot stays the same for all versions of the story, but the differences between Disney’s Cinderella and Grimm’s Cinderella are striking, and they deserve through examination.
How does the Disney version end? The prince finds Cinderella, takes her to the castle, and marries her. Cinderella, out of her kind nature, gives her step-mother and step-sisters an enjoyable and easy castle life. Prince Charming and Cinderella kiss, and live happily ever after. Once the prince is finished with the two evil sisters, Cinderella comes out and while taking off her dirty shoe, her foot fits perfectly into the shoe. The prince and Cinderella are finally together, the prince knows Cinderella was the mystery women he had been searching for all along since her foot fit into the shoe.
