Understanding of Cindy Sherman’s Work Cindy Sherman is known for her contemporary art. Her art is partly real and partly fictions. It is this role has made her art a center of debate for in the art world. She not only brings emotions to life in her art, Cindy also creates a new picture or a new view for different issues within the society. She covers various aspects of the contemporary culture including feminism, age, creativity and inner beauty. Her photography is a unique depiction of the various ways in which society views women as well as how they are supposed to be viewed. This is because her art greatly embraces the female gender and the feminine body. It covers a broad aspect of the bodies of the younger versions of females as depicted by the dolls photography. On the other hand, it also covers the older generation by depicting the older generation through depicting their bodies in her photography. There is also the nature of a woman being a spectator in the various photographs she appears in. It is as if her photographs are double-sided. She is portraying the different sides of women making them appear powerful and in control. They can fit any situation and can easily adjust. On the other hand, the nature of femininity being depicted in the form of spectatorships might also make the women appear defenseless to some extent. They just look and watch as they are molded by situations into fitting particular characters. From the photography, it is evident that Cindy supports the older generation and pushes for them to embrace their bodies. Their bodies are depicted as a work of art that deserves to be admired. There is no shame in aged skin and an aged body as it is a natural course of action.
