Lasallian Institutions – Southern Cross Catholic College, Yourtown Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God. Good morning/afternoon to the council of the De La Salle Brothers, today I will be evaluating two current Lasallian missions and how they reflect the themes in Circular 461 in terms of a mission in a multi-faith world. Circular 461 was published as a guide line for non-religious people explaining Lasallian spirituality of faith, service and community. The two Lasallian institutions I will be talking about today are Southern Cross Catholic College and Yourtown, previously known as BoysTown. There are three key words in Circular 461 which are multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-ethnic. Multi-cultural is simply a term which describes the cultural and ethnic diversity in society. We are, and will remain, a multicultural society (Department of social services, Australian government, 2014).This has a strong meaning in the Circular 461 document and this is because it shows that Lasallians do show interest in many other religions. Circular 461 uses the word unrepeatable quite a lot to describe every living person and this expresses how everybody has their own opinions and are unique. The theme for Lasallian women in the document recognise the distinct role and identity of women in the Lasallian mission, especially as catalysts for change. The critical role women play in the Lasallian mission was celebrated in Circular 461, which emphasises the importance of a more perceptive, comparative and community-centred approach to our work as Lasallians in the years ahead. The mission will help empower Lasallian women as they benefit from associating with others engaged in Lasallian workplaces, providing opportunities for mutual growth and support. The College was founded in 1995, following the amalgamation of the Catholic primary and secondary schools in the Moreton Bay Region. Today, the multi-campus College operates as the principal Catholic College on the Redcliffe Peninsula. Southern Cross Catholic College has three campuses located in Scarborough, Kippa Ring and Woody Point; accommodating students in Prep to Year 6 and a fourth campus in Scarborough accommodating middle and senior year’s students from Year 7 to 12 (Southern cross Catholic college, no date). Southern Cross ensures a safe and loving environment for students and the community by providing guidance councillors, knowledgeable teachers and a friendly student community. Southern Cross Catholic College embraces many different types of religion not just a catholic based education. In chapter 3.2 of the Circular 461 document is states that “The new reality of Lasallian association in a multi-cultural, multi-religious, multi-ethnic, and global context has common elements, even though Lasallians experience them in different ways. Two universal concepts however are essential, the relevance of human nature and the value of education” Southern Cross demonstrate this on a day to day basis this is because everybody has an equal opportunity, whether it be academic or
