The theme of the book Cirque Du Freak: Tunnels of Blood, by Darren Shan, is don’t judge people by their actions. Yes, we do this many times in a day, but in this book you find out how you cannot judge people by their actions. This may be them disguising the good in the bad, like Mr. Crepsley, or disguising the bad in the good, like Darren. Whatever it is, you may never know what someone’s plan is based on their actions. First, Mr. Crepsley does bad, or is it good? Probably the best example of don’t judge people by their actions, especially disguising good in the bad, is Mr.Crepsley and the butcher. “As soon as he left, I followed him. He led me straight to the slaughterhouse, which surprised me” (Page 111). Darren catches on to Mr. Crepsley’s shady business …show more content…
“...Slash Debbie’s throat and end her life in an instant” (Page 212). Darren had gone along with a plan to help Mr. Crepsley kill the vampaneze once and for all. He had been teaming up with Murlough to “help kill his next victim”. Darren makes himself look bad, as if he is going along with Murlough. Also, he makes himself look good to Murlough, and convince him to trust him. This is when you judge people by their actions and, most of the time, make the wrong assumption. “Murlough’s knives swished through the air, through the space where Debbie’s neck should have been, and through the soft fabric of the pillows and the mattress” (Page 213). This is where people realize their assumptions were wrong, based on actions. Darren and Mr. Crepsley tricked Murlough into making him think Darren was actually going to let him kill Debbie. All along readers have taken on the wrong impression too. “He paused more than once, and I thought he was going to die midway, but he was determined to have his final say” (Page 216). Mr. Crepsley and Darren had been successful. They killed the vampaneze, Murlough, and saved
