At first, we were clueless about our topic. Our research started with old wars from Europe and one of those wars was the War of the Roses. At the same time, we were learning in history about slaves being brought into America. It got us thinking what is the compromise in this problem that builds up to a change in society. It turns out the Civil Rights Movement did have a solution and the conflict is the one we face today with races opposing each other. That’s where we started our research by finding the compromise, which was the “Civil Rights Act of 1964”. Later, we found that there were two other acts, “ The Voting Rights Act of 1965 ” and “ The Housing Act of 1968 ”, that were added to protect African Americans. Kennedy once said,“ This Nation … was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.”. This is something that is true and our former leaders seem to have forgotten one of the principles we based our government on. The southern leaders violated this right by imposing discriminating laws. Some of these laws prevented the African Americans from using their rights. For example, the literacy test that was built to stop African American from voting. Another example would be the poor education they were given to stop them from getting better jobs than white people. These are only some of the examples of the conflicts the African American community really wanted to fix. It took them a lot of time but they achieved to get the “Civil Rights Act of 1964”. This compromise was only the first part of a big change that turns us into “ the same and equal” country we are today. Even if there's been a lot of chaos lately, we can learn from those before us and we can too make an agreement that can finally destroy boundaries and unite us as what we truly are… humans.
