Final Essay In this class, we explored a plethora of different topics regarding American History. Of every lesson, undoubtedly the most crucial one was the Civil War. The Civil War is unequivocally and most-assuredly the most important event to have happened in the history of the United States. This is due to the fact that the war led to progress regarding racism, the shift in the direction of the economy of the country, and perhaps most importantly, the unification of America as a democratic republic. These results of the civil war help accentuate its true importance to American society. The Civil War was a monumental point in U.S history, and the emancipation of slaves was a key event in illustrating that fact. Directly after the Civil War, the hundreds of thousands of slaves that had been forced to work in America were all freed at once. This happened as a result of the institution of the 13th amendment that was adopted in 1865, which resulted in the emancipation of all 4 million slaves in America …show more content…
The civil war’s main aim, was simply to bring unification to the states, or to “preserve the union,” a goal that was met with flying colors (https://www.archives.gov/publications/prologue/2010/spring/newnation.html). When the civil war was finally through, Lincoln and the rest of the Northern side knew it was worth it. They had proved that they cared enough about their nation to preserve it. The end of the war answered the all-important question of the world regarding America. Could America survive as a republic nation amidst high tensions and conflicting ideals? The answer, of course, is a resounding yes due to the efforts of the Union army. For the reasons I laid out, the civil war is the single most remarkable and impactful event from our U.S history
