The U.S. has always had its ups and downs but it always came back together. George Washington’s presidency was a good presidency. He was a Commander in the military and fought in the American Revolutionary War. He was the First president and a founding father so it was a great start for the U.S. The Louisiana Purchase was a great thing too. It doubled the size of the U.S. and added more federal power. The Louisiana Purchase cost around $15 million. It was worth it too because there was so much land. It was about 530,000,000 acres total. That is a lot of acres. The Supreme Court was the highest of courts and was part of the judicial branch. The Supreme Court has 9 Judges so one side will always win. I won’t get into this because I don’t know much about it. Now the Civil war is one of the absolute worst things that has ever happened to this country. The Civil war started because of some HUGE reasons that I will explain. Abraham Lincoln was the president of the North at the time. Most say he fought them because they had slaves. Well let me put it in terms you will understand. “HE LIED”. He fought them because it was the country that he spent so much time on winning and it just waltzed away and he was not going to let that happen. So to get people on his side and make himself look good in the future, he told everyone he was fighting against slavery. There was a law and it was called the “Fugitive Slave Law” and this declared that all U.S. citizens helped the south find the run-away slaves. On top of that, the North was buying cotton from the south (the cotton that slaves picked) and made clothe factories. The North’s economy was run by slavery.
