Many events led up to the Civil War, most, in my opinion fall around slavery. Slavery was a controversial topic that divided a nation, and brought war. The south felt like their rights were being attacked, and then the north was angered by the government's reaction to slavery, with their multiple compromises. These two conflicts only brought more problems, and war soon followed. One conflict the union faced was a constant stream of compromises that only brought more anger. Such as the Kansas-Nebraska Act. This act allowed states to choose whether or not they’d allow slavery. Northerners protested this act, arguing this allowed places that have been free for years to be overrun with slavery.
