The 19th century was a time defined by the enormous rift that caused the Civil War, the emancipation of the slaves, and the leadership that Abraham Lincoln took to keep the Union intact. This led to the deaths of over 600,000 Americans between Union and Confederate soldiers. Out of the eleven confederate states, Texas was one of them. Texans fought in the civil war to defend state’s rights, preserve slaves, and for the love of Texas.
The Civil War was a dark time in America’s history. Many causes led up to the gruesome fight that affected America forever. The North and South’s animosity created a large gap between the two. Eventually the South seceded, breaking the union. They became the Confederacy, and the North and South began to anticipate a horrific battle.

Civil War began because the North wanted to abolish slavery, the South seceded from the Union, and the North overpowered the South.
The North had beaten the South in the Civil War. The North won the war for many reasons; they had some advantages over the South, a great leader, and the desire to win. The North and South fought many battles before the Civil War ended. Each battle had a different outcome and some encouraging the fight and some ended in despair.
