Texas Chooses Sides in the Civil War 1854, the tension between the slave and non slave states rises. The Kansas-Nebraska act has been passed. The balance of power has been tipped, for the two states were given a choice. They choose to be free, which completely repealed the Missouri Compromise. 1861, the election of 1860 has caused the states to secede. The south couldn’t stand it any longer, and neither could Texas so Texas is now the seventh state to secede knowing their will be many deaths among them.
The Civil War: the bloodiest, most deadly battle of U.S. history. Through hard occurrences, the torn-apart nation fought an enduring war, with more than 600,000 brave soldiers perishing along the way. Beginning in the 1860’s, many states began to secede from the once unified United States of America, to create a new country: the Confederate States of America. Thus, the U.S. separated, due to each sides’ different policies. The secession of the Southern states split the nation, acting as a trigger for the Civil War.

Just a few months later, the bloody battle of the civil war begun. Texans fought in the war for the love of Texas, defend states rights, and remain slavery. One of the reasons Texas fought in the war was for the love of Texas.
The Civil War is known as the bloodiest war the U.S ever fought in, and many people volunteered, including Texans. Slavery has been splitting the U.S apart for a long time, and everyone knew that war would come eventually. Tension was building between the two sides, but the last straw for the South was when Abraham Lincoln, an anti slavery man, was elected for president. The Southern states then began to secede from the Union, with South Carolina leading. Texas was the 7th state to secede, but Sam Houston was forced to resign due to not taking the Confederate oath.
H.L. Menken once said, “The American people, North and South, went into the Civil War as citizens of their respective states, they came out as subjects... what they thus lost they have never got back.” The Civil War was a game changer for the United States. There were many problems leading up to this and the Civil War was bound to happen. Texans fought in the Civil War to protect States Rights, to keep slavery, and for the love of Texas.
In 1861, Texas was involved in the fighting of the Civil War. The Civil War was composed of the Confederate States of America, or the Confederacy, and the United States of America, or the Union. So the question is, why did Texas take part in the Civil War? Well, Texas fought in the Civil War for their love for Texas, to protect state’s rights, and to protect slavery in the South. One of the reasons Texas fought in the Civil War was because of their love for Texas.
There are many different points and views that each side of the Civil War had on the war. There were many things that the Union and the Confederacy disagreed with and agreed with. Two things they disagreed on are how the Civil War started and the main reason for this war, slavery. One thing they agreed on is the Emancipation Proclamation that Lincoln issued in 1863. Both sides of the Civil War have different views as to how the War started.
Blood, death, tears, and shouts, that was life in the Civil War for a soldier. In 1861, the Civil War begun and the states that had once been united were now turning against each other. Texas fought for the South and was the 7th state to join the Confederacy. Texas had a military with about 65,000 Texan soldiers within it and almost a fifth of these fighters perished. Men of all ages were marching off to war in different states, and women and children were left waiting anxiously for their return.
While the Civil War remains a landmark and poignant instance of American history, it was indubitably shaped by the issue of slavery. The part of slavery in the path to the start of the Civil War was very complicated getting involved with the Southern defense, the Northern opposition, Lincoln’s evolving stance, and the debate over the expansion of slavery into the western territories. These events highlighted the underlying troubled areas and the contrasting ideas that eventually resulted in the outbreak of this war. First is the Southern defense of slavery, which acts as a central factor which was at the heart of the precipitation of the Civil War. The "Texas Declaration of Causes" states that the right to own slaves is at the core of the Southern identity, which is also an integral part of their economy.
Imagine half of the country splitting apart, while growing up. In 1820, the U.S. began to fall apart, multiple events caused the United States of America to spread apart. There were multiple disagreements between the North and the South states. The Missouri Compromise, the threatening of the Southern states seceding, and the Kansas Nebraska act all contributed to this disaster. Why did Texans fight in the Civil War?
How did it start? It started on April 12 at the Battle of Fort Sumter when the South attacked the North, soon to bring 65,000 Texans to service. Then 4 years later on May 12 the war finally ended at the Battle of Palmito Ranch, after every soldier had fought for their lives. So, I bet you are wondering, why did these Texans fight in the Civil War? Texans fought in the Civil War for three reasons: to protect their states rights, to preserve slavery, and the main reason, their love for Texas.
Hundreds of years of slavery. Millions of innocent lives were lost. If America did not have the Civil War, how much longer would it take until Black Americans would be fully considered equal? Would Black Americans still be used as slaves today? The outcome of the war rather than abolishing slavery was devastating, but if a war this awful needed to happen to stop slavery, then it shows how immense the amount of unethicalness of owning a person is.

If the enduring vision of America is embodied in the Declaration of Independence's statements about equality and universal rights to justice, liberty, and self-fulfillment, how much progress toward those ideals had blacks and women made by 1877?
The beginning of the Civil War can be taken back all the way to 1619 when English settlers first brought African Americans over to the states. When they were first sold to settlers, they were not slaves, but indentured servants, but it wasn’t long before the indentured were treated as slaves. In 1641, Massachusetts becomes the first colony to legalize slavery, followed by Maryland who recognized slavery for life except for those who converted to Christianity, which Virginia shortly revoked this law. In 1688, the first protest against slavery was brought about by Quakers who claimed slavery was not Christian like.
The Civil War is characterized as the bloodiest war in American History. From 1861 to 1865, the North and South fought over several of disagreements and encounters. The Civil War caused hundreds and thousands of men to lose their life, about 620,000 soldiers had died. The Civil War was fought in Pennsylvania, Texas, New Mexico, and Florida. Civil War began because the North wanted to abolish slavery, the South seceded from the Union, and the North overpowered the South.
