The civil war of 1861-1875 is known as one of the most bloodiest battles ever fought in American history. The outcome of the war would define the type of country the U.S. would become for centuries to come. This war gave justice to two unanswered questions left undetermined by the revolution: would the United States strictly follow the ideas left upon the Declaration of Independence or fall as a whole country due to disagreements in beliefs. Two sides, the North and South, with very distinct ideas went head to head in overwhelming battles, each party of states fighting for their own reasons.

The result of a long-standing disagreement over slavery, war broke out in April 1861, when Confederates attacked Fort Sumter . The Civil War marked a defining moment in United States history. Compromises concerning slavery, states' rights, and economical issues were created to satisfy the North and South, but were not efficient enough to ease the differences to prevent the Civil War. A common explanation is that the Civil War was fought over the issues of slavery.

On April 12th, 1861 this battle broke out between the Union States, North, and the Confederate States, such as the South. The Civil War took place all throughout the United states, and did not come to an end until the Union won the war on May 9, 1856. So, our question of “What caused the Civil War”, comes with three important answers. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were Economic, Social, and Political differences.

The north didn't want slavery any more but the south still wanted slaves because they needed them for farming. Once president Abraham Lincoln was elected as president in 1860 shortly after the south seceded which was a breaking point and the war started.
