The Man who Invented Frozen Foods People had devoured frozen food. People hated it. As the foods would freeze in a fairly slow rate, the foods tissue would deform, taking out all its taste. These frozen foods were insipid, and did not taste delicious at all. There were many methods inventors have come up with to freeze food, but it just was not effective, and overall it did not work. The invention of the frozen foods is one of the most important inventions today, thanks to Clarence Birdseye. It all started on December 9, 1886, when a boy named Clarence Birdseye was born. He was in a family of 11. His family was not wealthy, as he had eight other siblings around him in his family. Clarence was interested in plant life (botany), and zoology. …show more content…
This was inefficient, since the food tissue would deform, leaving no taste behind. But Clarence Birdseye had solved this problem. When Clarence Birdseye was back in the United States, he had used his observations from the Eskimos to create a quick freeze machine. There would be fish contained in boxes that would be frozen between two refrigerated surfaces under high, and exerted pressure. In 1922, Birdseye had soon realized that he could make a lot of money, with a professional way of freezing foods, and had started his own company, General Seafood Corporation. Birdseye’s company had started small, by freezing fish fillet at a temperature of 43˚C. A five-centimeter thick package of meat could be frozen to -18˚C in just about 90 minutes, and as vegetables and fruits took around 30 minutes to freeze. In 1929, the Postum Company had bought General Seafood Corporation, which had led to the brand, “Birds Eye”. Frozen products were sold. Sometime in the early 1930’s, Birdseye’s frozen fruits, meat, poultry, and vegetables were also sold. Later in the 1940’s, Birds Eye had frozen products all over the country, being
