Clarkson University has several required classes that need to be taken in order to graduate. These required classes can be per major but most are universal. Included in those specific classes is the Clarkson Seminar. The Clarkson Seminar is required by Clarkson University to be taken by the entire freshmen class. Specifically the Clarkson Seminar: Contested Visions of Utopia has strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that affect the students in the class as well as the university. Although these four areas are different from each other they tend to overlap quite a bit. The Clarkson Seminar has strengths, as well as other attributes, but the strengths that it provides allows for students to grow and prosper. Attending the Clarkson Seminar allows for students to build up interpersonal and communication skills. The students get the chance to interact with other students from different majors. By having the chance to interact with students from different majors the students get the chance to form friendships and acquaintances with students that they may not normally have crossed paths with. There never seems to be a dull moment, there is always an interested lecture or topic planned for the class. The students tend to interact well with one another and the professor. There are rarely any awkward pauses or silent moments when no students are talking. The topics are often very well covered and the student can often walk out of class knowing more than they had known at the start. The topics discussed in class often end up in some sort of a debate or huge group discussion because many students feel vocal on the topic or have an insight that they would like to share with the rest of the class.
