During the beginning of the semester I thought to myself why do I need this RWS class. However, I did get an eight on my WPA, guess doing an all-nighter a day before the exam is not a great way to be mentally prepared for a writing exam. After several attempts of going and crashing the class, I finally got into the English class and my schedule was set for the semester. At first I thought that this class was going to be boring like most English class, you know the usual, lectures and writing assignments, however, this class was very distinct from my previous English classes. I will now be more prepared for future writing task and I will now be able to use the skills I learned in this course to get my message across. For example, for an upper division course of history I will need to evaluate professors and give lectures in high schools as a preparation of U.S. history for teachers. While giving lectures to the students I will be able to use rhetorical strategies such as ethos, pathos, and logos. By providing ethos I will make students give me credibility of what I am saying, I will use logos by providing facts and statistics, and finally I will apply pathos by convincing my audience by creating an emotional response. Knowing these strategies and applying them in an argument, presentation, or lecture will help you send your message across and provide your audience a complete understanding of what you are trying to say. As for evaluations and applying for grad school, this course has help me prepare myself for the future and has help me get an idea what many internships and employers are looking for when you write a cover letter and a personal statement. I learned that you must know your audience when creating a cover letter, you can’t just write a cover letter just like that. To create a great cover letter, you need to do some research and learn the name of who your writing such as the Human resource manager. And most important I learned that whenever you write a cover letter or a personal statement always try to void “Kisses of Death
