A Night to Remember Paper Josiah Hill 2nd block odd The world revolves a class system categorizing people by how much money a person has, or how much a person makes in a certain time period. Back in the day, there were first class and second class; along with third, which is similar to the first class, middle class, and low class used today. Even during a crisis, for example the titanic, the classes are kept in placed. The cause of this may have been due to how much money an individual has, power, and privileges.
Classes can be differentiated due to the influence of money. Money is the “king” of everything since you cannot do anything without it. It’s used to show who you are as to what talents you have or your characteristics as a person. The book states,” Even the passenger’s dogs were glamourous” (1). This selection demonstrates that only the wealthy had full bred dogs to signify their wealth. Generally, only people who had the money would have these dogs. The power of a millionaire is so high, employees on the titanic MUST do everything they are asked and told to do. In the book where it says, “ In First Class it was more polite to knock” (29), they Stewards could not just bang the doors open for them because they knew they would get fired for it. The millionaires had even more power than Captain Smith, the captain of the Titanic, himself. If anyone wanted to keep their job, they’d have to comply to everything needed and not upset the millionaires. People argue that the captain or Chief Officers would have more power on the ship. Trufully, those people should have the most power, but the millionaires do. Without them, White Star Line may not be as successful as they were.
