While reading chapter 2, I came across a new insight which caught my attention right away. Reading about classical conditioning and how it does affect certain aspects of our lives I found out about the white coat syndrome. This syndrome has come about due to the uniform which doctors or nurses wear, a white coat. People who had previously gone to visit doctors or had gone to the hospital for medical reasons began to develop an anxiety when the site of a white robe was seen. Having that connection of a bad experience of someone who might "harm" you by giving you a shot or injection to a white robe made their idea memorable. Therefore if they ever saw a white robe, their anxiety would automatically rise even if they weren't facing a doctor. Due to the development of this syndrome, doctors and nurses have decided to change their clothing attire and not wear a white robe all the time. The correct way of learning new knowledge that will actually be remembered and learned is through this process. As a teacher or advisor, you always want your student to never get bored or fail to pay attention. Having them actively engaged, like answering questions or filling in a worksheet as you teach will increase the memory of the new knowledge. This isn't just for teachers and schools but, this is used in every activity of teaching new knowledge. This can be as easy as teaching how to ride a bike or even how to brushing their teeth. Sociocultural learning is active and even as adults we keep learning every day. Watching a cooking show might teach you some lessons but you won't actually learn how to cook if you do the action of cooking.
