Classroom Management Philosophy Statement

In regards to classroom management, my ability to engage my students and encourage their participation has been a strength of mine as an educator. Additionally, I have effectively created a safe learning environment and strong class community that allows my students to take risks and verbally encourage one another. I am proud of the way my students support and encourage one another within our classroom and during academic learning time. Many of my students have begun to utilize my words or phrases of encouragement when speaking to one another and themselves which highlights the strong relationships I have created with my own students. For instance they say, “I am going to rock this test” or “You’ve got this, you can do it”. My students have a lot of buy-in to our class community and class promise as well as into me, themselves, and their classmates. Thus far, my various classroom management strategies and token economies have been extremely effective. My students are extrinsically motivated by incentives and various prizes. Many of my students have become extremely comfortable with our class routine, me as their teacher, and their classmates. Because of this, student distractions and negative interactions with one another have increased. Many of my students who are normally and previously always focused and displaying on-task behavior, have now begun to be extremely chatty and put their hands on others. My goal for this semester is to continue to reestablish expectations and emphasize how we speak to others. Because my class has many students with large/challenging behaviors, it becomes difficult to teach and have effective classroom management when many of my students who are normally always on-task begin to contribute to off-task
