For this Classroom Management Plan I am writing as though I have a Special Education classroom for an Elementary School. This classroom is for small groups of students to come in, to further their skills in reading or math. The students that come into the room for small groups have IEPs, and therefore IEP goals. I will make use of rocking chairs, and ‘squishy’ seats for students with attention deficit disorder, or a sensory disorder. Ideally, I would like to have my desk facing the classroom which would have one half moon table, and another circular table. After I explain what the expectations for my classroom will be, I will then explain what the consequences for not following these expectations will be. I will be using “clip-charts” in my classroom so that students have a visual representation of their behavior whether it is positive or negative. I will also use a sticker chart that if the students are on ‘green’ or higher on the chart, they will get a sticker to put on their chart. If they get thirty stickers, they get to pick a small prize out of the prize box. If the students behave poorly they do not get a sticker, and if they get to red it is an automatic call to their parents. Most times in my classroom if a student misbehaves, I want them to be able to have a conversation with me first about their inappropriate behavior. After extended breaks, or vacations I will have activities or projects that the students can work on, to help rebuild the classroom community. I have watched these activities be done in a few different classrooms that I have worked in, and they work well with re-establishing the community of the classroom. One idea that I enjoyed was called “Classroom Throwbacks.” These throwbacks can be written at any time during the year. If a funny, interesting, or memorable moment happens in class throughout the year, the teacher or student can write it down on a piece of paper and put it in the ‘throwback’ container.
