Claude Monet
Claude Monet was born in France on November 14,1840. He died on December 5, 1926. Monet was quoted saying “Color is my day long obsession, joy and torment” (“Claude Monet”). As many artists in that time period, Monet lived through depression, poverty, and illness. So, it makes sense he describes art as torment as well as his joy. His father was said to have discouraged Monet’s art while his mother supported him. Monet also found support in both his wives, first Camille Doncieux and after her death Alice Hoschede. “Monet found subjects in his immediate surroundings, as he painted the people and places he knew best”(Auricchio), both wives were subjects in his paintings and took on

The piece was completed in 1926, the same year Monet died. The medium is oil on canvas. One of the things I love about Monet’s work and impression in general is the mix of color. Since the color is layered over one another there's no clear lines so it gives the piece a dreamlike feel. Another important aspect of the piece is the texture, the roses look like they’re popping out of the page. Even though a good percentage of the painting is the blue sky since there are many different shades of blue and white Monet doesn’t waste any space. The greens, blues, and purples give the piece unity and the emphasis on the pink roses create a nice
