The book Clay is a very mysterious book about the unknown and where it leads. In linking with the previous statement about the book,David Almond has conveyed the message of the book through the changes he makes the characters go through. As an example, at the beginning of the book Jordie (the main character) thought what Stephan did “making clay figures” was crazy and he was nothing like him but later on we get to know that they are more of the same person than you would think. Implying that we are not so different to those around us and we might be more similar than you think. Like the message about the book there is another complicated part about the book. As we can tell from the quote Stephan Rose is a very religious person. The religion he is a part of is Christianity. Which can be proven by evidence earlier saying he went to a Catholic boarding school to become a priest. The reason that Stephan Rose chose the words “ like God did “ is because he was creating clay figures. He called them his disciples as Jesus one did. Just as God created life, so did he. But not in the way God did. As God had good intentions for the world he created a purpose. But Stephan Rose has no idea what he is creating; he is just creating life because he can. But what he is creating are not the angelic beings he imangens them to but more of a deval. Which might be a sign to Stephan and others that the creation and manipulation of life is not something that they should mess around with. As it doesn't just create creatures in the physical world but in the mental world as well. “You can not hide!” is my second quote of this paragraph. As stated in the book a woman with wings and a sword in her hand appeared out of nowhere. Stephan described her as bright at the sun. He also stated that he could hear her speak everywhere inside his body and outside.giving more evidence that it was not human if it wasn't already enough. From the overall message of the book we can guess it was an angel coming down from heaven.
