The cop was thinking that exterminating black people from the community would get humanity closer to what he sees as the ideal society. This obviously didn’t happen and only caused more unnecessary conflict. The cop was then brought to a jury trial and had to deal with many unnecessary events. In the end, he still "lost" because racism was somewhat diminished, which brought him farther from his "ideal" community. Another important death is Natasha’s.
Before being summoned to the dark side, Brown was told “evil must be your only happiness. Welcome, again, my children, to the communion of your race!” Brown did not take a stand against evil, punishing himself into a lifetime of misery. These two main characters contrast each other when it comes to fighting off corrupt forces.
Black Tom is seen as an evil individual to everyone because of his actions. Malone claims that Black Tom “[is] a monster,” (130). From what we see on the outside, Black Tom does give the impression of an evil monster, but in reality he “was made one,” (130). Black Tom saying he felt “unsympathized with” stresses to the reader that he turned “evil” because of the actions of others. When his father died, Tom received almost no support.
It’s easily noted that there is racial pressure throughout the film, displayed by the conflict between the obvious and overtly racist white mafia and Ghost Dog, and also by the bear hunters seen in part of the film. The bear they kill can somewhat be seen as a symbol for Ghost Dog, and Ghost Dog can also be made to represent blackness. One of the hunters rationalizes the killing of the bear, saying “There are not many of these big black fuckers anymore” and another says, “For that matter, there are not many colored people around here neither” while pointing the gun to Ghost Dog. So, because the hunter illegally killed a bear, it can be understood as a metaphor for racist murderers.
In both Encanto and Black Panther, we see Mirabel and Erik Stevens dealing with having the sense of not belonging in their respective communities. In Black Panther, the result of this is Erik Stevens aka Killmonger growing up abandoned and in effect, distant from both his culture and extended family, painfully aware that they won’t accept him as warned by his father. In his isolation, he becomes a product of his circumstances living as a black man in America (dealing with the consequences of such) and learning of the injustices that Wakanda could easily prevent whilst they willfully remain uninvolved. Consequently, the present-day Erik Stevens is a morally gray character who’s now vengeful and desensitized to killing- constantly prioritizing
Ignorance of another's personal values or situation results in an impassable schism between the two parties. People fail to understand each other, and as such, they regard each other in lower lights. In “Heart of Darkness”, Joseph Conrad, through Marlow, writes his novella through a lense of ignorance and the perspective of the typical white person of the time in order to relate his story to the reader. Marlow and the accountant are contrasted with Kurtz to display the effects of evil on an individual.
Hunt Hawkins presents the controversy that Joseph Conrad’s, Heart of Darkness, encounters, as its contents portray Africans as dehumanizing, savage, and uncivilized beings. Into the Darkness: How and why is a social group presented in a particular way? Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness takes a multi-faceted approach to the issues that surrounded 19th century colonization and imperialism in Africa. Marlow’s journey into the heart of Africa serves to highlight the hypocrisy of this endeavor, and how this deceit followed the rhetoric utilized by the colonizers in order to justify their colonization of Africa and the treatment of the natives. As the novel progresses, Africa becomes more of a backdrop for Conrad to truly expose the depravity of European intervention in Africa. Through Marlow’s narrative, varying connotations of words and his own main character’s reactions,as well as copious amounts of descriptive imagery, Conrad casts Europeans in a negative light in order to criticize imperialism and colonists.
