As President Donald Trump signed the executive order of Energy Independence on March 28, 2017, he stated how his order would “end the war on coal and would usher in more jobs and energy production” (Reuters, 2017). The order that Trump signed repealed the Clean Power Plan. This plan had previously been a policy that worked toward decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions are in the air, and therefore attempting to slow down global warming from occurring. Trump is changing this policy because he says that it is an “unfair burden on the coal industry and overall economy” (Greshko, 2017). This means that Trump would rather profit off of the coal industry than delay an increasingly important issue of climate change happening on our Earth right now. I do not agree with Trump’s executive order on Energy Independence. I feel as if the Clean Power Plan was extremely beneficial to our environment and will have a negative impact if it is repealed. The Clean Power Plan’s goal was to reduce the amount of carbon pollution emitted from power plants, specifically in the coal industry (“Overview”, 2016). This is immensely significant due to the fact that global climate change is a problem right now and carbon works as a greenhouse effect for our Earth. By Trump signing the Energy Independence order that repeals the Clean Power Plan, the opposite is happening as United States is now reducing what we are doing to eliminate the issue. This plan focuses on ways to use renewable energy sources. This is because these pollute less carbon into the atmosphere and will not run out, like nonrenewable resources, such as coal (“Overview”, 2016).
