Pollution has been a huge problem in the world for a very long time. We, humans, continue on littering everywhere, simply because we are too lazy to throw our trash in the appropriate places. Many PSA (public service announcements) filmmakers try to persuade their audience that littering causes many harmful problems. Both David Lynch’s Clean Up New York Campaign and the Keep America Beautiful Campaign were persuasive in the message of littering and pollution, however, the Clean Up New York Campaign was more persuasive because it had more of a connection to everyday lives, and it included all forms of rhetorical appeals in a more clear way. The music plays a huge factor in how the message is brought out. The music is a bit spooky which helps to show how littering is like a scary movie. The rats add to the spookiness of the film. David wants to be transparent with his audience and not hide the truth from them. The filmmaker brings out the emotions (pathos) of its audience in a way that makes them feel a bit guilty and even a bit scared. The filmmaker ( speaker) wants the audience to agree with him that littering needs to stop and that New York must be kept clean. David is able to make sure that he is able to attain the attention of his audience because in the way he shot his video, he makes it clear that this problem affects everyone and that we are all a part of this problem. Some might say that this campaign was more on the creepy and scary side and that at the end the audience will be more mortified than awaken about the situation at the hand. Although this may be true for some people, the filmmaker did this on purpose. The creepiness of this video is what makes the problem of littering stand out even
