The history of Cleopatra is a long and mysterious one. There have been many books, movies, and plays that have recreated her life. The most popular is Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra. This play helped Cleopatra become the fascinating icon that she is today and made people investigate her life. Although Marc Antony and Cleopatra’s affair may be the most well know, there is a relationship that is overshadowed. Julius Caesar was a very important part of Cleopatra’s rise to greatness, and without him she may have never met Antony. Cleopatra was never destined for an ordinary life, but little did she know how truly notorious it would become. When Cleopatra’s father, King Ptolemy XII died Cleopatra and her brother were given the throne. Without a King, Cleopatra was next in line to rule and she needed a husband by her side.
