Cleopatra VII: Face or Power Figure Some see her as the most powerful Pharaoh in all of the other rulers in ancient Egypt. Some see her as a petty, weak female ruler who gave up her dynasty to the Romans for her lovers. Although both sides hold some form of truth, Cleopatra was a ruler like none other. Even today, historians argue about this, possibly because, even though she had brought Egypt great power and political stability, she eventually lost it to the Romans. But all in all, Cleopatra had many hardships and obstacles in her way that she was able to successfully overcome and simultaneously rule one of the greatest empires in the ancient world at only the age of eighteen. She and her brother, basing off of Berenice’s mistakes, began to blame Arsinoe for attempting to kill her father. This got Arsinoe killed as well. At this point, she got her other siblings killed by being blamed for attempting to take over the throne and there for getting rid of her opponents. But the fight still wasn't over. She still needed to go against Ptolemy XIII, and there was the fact that female rulers were seen as weak and incapable of managing an entire Empire, so Cleopatra had to devise a very carefully and meticulously made plan to take control. She decided to marry her brother as she ruled internally, and he was seen as the man sitting on the throne. In the end, she ruled with her brother (Nardo). This entire process of betraying her own siblings and going against them shows her devotion, strength, and capabilities as being an incredible and fascinating ruler. And because she was willing to give up even her family to make sure that Egypt was ruled by the fairest emperor, Cleopatra had a way of thinking outside of the box to get what she wanted at her tender age of eighteen.
