Carl Rogers’ Client Centred Therapy
The session’s counsellor is Carl Rogers and the client’s issue is the grief and fear from the loss of her twins during pregnancy. The session was thirty minutes long and was not like a typical session. The session was done in a stage where the privacy of the client was not concealed. It was an open session that aimed more towards what it meant to be a client centred therapy. The session flows however the client wants it to which is a typical example of client centred therapy. The client has grief and fear issues that had debilitated and hampered her life “So if you don’t have a child, that leaves a terrible gap.”

“I want to succeed and I want everything that I want…” highlights the client’s belief that she has been a failure because she could not succeed during her pregnancy. Different counsellor qualities were presents during the session. The counsellor’s tone of voice was very calm and composed, it allowed the client to relax and open themselves up. “You know, I can’t feel it in my body what you feel in yours, but at least I have made it easier for you.” The quote reveals that empathy is used by the counsellor to understand the client without actually feeling what the client was feeling, but understanding where she is coming from. “So the grief is still there” is the quote that expresses the client’s true issue. The counsellor has a very calm and composed, it allows the client to relax. The geniuses of the counsellor is apparent throughout the session, he paraphrases the client’s main issues which allows her to elaborate on them. The empathy of the counsellor is visible through the phrase “I understand.” The counsellor was extremely attentive, understanding and supportive during the session.
