This process recording will be a reflection of a session the student social worker shared with a client on 10/21/2015. This client is a Caucasian male veteran, 70, with a terminal cancer. As previously, emphasized in a previous process recording this client is knowledgeable of the services that hospice provides due to the loss of his wife seven years ago and her experience with hospice. The intent of this session was to build rapport and establish trust with this client, in attempt to reduce the sense of loneliness that this client expressed in our initial meeting. In order to help alleviate this issue the student social worker has to gain the client’s trust through conversing with the client about current hobbies. The student worker meet with this client once a week and this week the student social worker was able to make a connection with the client. During this session, the student social worker learned from the first meeting that the client love to work with his hands, he often expressed that he was a “home body,” that rarely leave the house. The client told the student social worker about his hobbies of constructing Nascar for his grandchild; so the student found a car set at the office to construct during our session. He begin to describe what he had saved to eat for dinner and expressed his excitement. When discussing meal, he informed the student social worker about frozen meals that he eat and be able to consume a home-cooked would be nice. During this session, the student social worker was able to walk through the client garage where he constructed his cars and worked on his paintings. After walking through the garage we sat on the porch and continue to converse and learned about his family medical history and how he added on additional square footage to his home for him and his wife
