Climate Action should focus on communities, not just carbon: Rhetorical Analysis This TED talk titled “Climate Action Should Focus On Communities, Not Just Carbon” given by Jade Begay, discusses the importance of the communities that are being affected by climate change and the value of the knowledge that they hold to further help implement climate actions to eliminate the problem at hand.. Begay will use different stylistic techniques such as Logos, Ethos and organization for successful implementation of her speech.

Begay talked about her experience in communities and explains that one common thing she sees is “Many decades of urging and pleading and demanding that the rest of the world listens to our needs” (2:22) Begay saying this shows the viewer that the communities are hurting and are not being listened to. This makes the viewer feel empathy for these communities. They want to be able to live their lives and continue to embrace their culture and feel like themselves but they cant because of the continued climate disasters Begay brings up in Western Alaska, Puerto Rico, and Pakistan.”All of these impacts are reminding us over and over again that we need to get stronger at centering people”(4:07) the continued disaster and the continued ignoring of these communities are just showing that we don’t have that connection as a whole world but rather as individual companies and communities when in fact we should be consulting the people that experience climate change first hand because of the knowledge and valuable information that they can provide. Both of the quotes provided shows and evokes the emotion response into the viewer to feel empathy for these communities that are on the frontlines of climate change so that we include their knowledge when creating action
