In the article “Curbing Consumption”, Catherine Morris writes about the problem of high risk drink affecting college students in the United States. Morris shows the problem of high risk drinking through the number of use of date rape drugs and binge drinking. Through these examples the author's argument is strongly supported.
The first topic Morris writes about in her article is date rape in the university, “according to the NIAAA, 696,000 students report being assaulted by an intoxicated student another 97,000 student’s reported being sexually assaulted on an alcohol-influence situation”. It is not that more students are drinking rather, those who do drink are drinking more at a time. The way binge drinking has tragically put a damper on the university’s student body because that puts health risk on some students. They are not used to drinking that much in their life and especially at parties. College students either throw up and are blackout drunk not realizing what they are doing or saying mostly slurring their words, not even walking straight, even drinking and drive which leads to fatal accidents. Also Dr. George states. “The good thing is we see a decrease in the percentages of middle school and high school kids in drinking, and we actually see an increase in the percentage of college kids or young adults that are drinking”. Although younger generation has shown that they have combated on drinking, college students have increase because they have showed to be in a more stressful situation that leads to depression and binge drinking thus increasing the percentages of underage college drinking. Some colleges have class that have bartending class that tech students have to deal with severing and limiting there alcohol computations even prospering mix drinks as well. Bing drinking can damage the student and here are some health risk that can hurt a binge drinker, alcohol poisoning, hypertension, stroke, heart attack, liver disease, sexual dysfunction, and diabetes-related issues. Even violence students that drink can be violent or put in a situation at a party or even going out a night on the town at a club.
