INTRO TITTLE: DIETICIAN
This research report explores a profession as Clinical Dietician working at a large organization, such as a general hospital in Alberta. Firstly, this report explores the role of a dietician including its educational requirements and average salary, for example. Secondly, this report also includes information relevant to the job application process specifically with Alberta Health Services, a potential organization at which a certified graduate may wish to work.

Appendix B provides a list of approved programs. According to U of A, a 4-year Bachelors of Science in Nutrition Major degree must be completed before applying to the internship. Note that as of 2015/16, the program will change to an integrated program (Appendix A). After the extensive training program, the most provinces (including Alberta) require the delegates to write the CDRE exam after which the tittle “Register Dietician” can be legally applied to their practice. A challenge that Paula Antanocci R.D, L.D explains she faces as a member of this profession is that “many folks, including other medical professionals, see the dietitian as having a very narrow role, talking only about food, nutrition and weight.” This method of thinking limits the opportunities that those people have available to them such as chronic illness management for example.
Dieticians generally work indoors, inside offices, laboratories or clinics (including rehab centers) but it is dependent on their classification. Also, attending global conferences or meetings between different offices could also be a requirement depending on the needs of the employer. Considering location of work, a dietician certified in Alberta who is wishing to move to a different country could be required to write a regulated exam of that country, such as in USA.
