Clinical Internship Personal Statement

Ever since I heard about the clinical internship program in school, I knew I wanted to be part of an opportunity that can expand my knowledge about different careers. I desire to take the internship class to gain experience, shadow professionals, see first-hand workforce, improve skills and learn more about careers. Most importantly, I think this internship would be beneficial due to the path I want to take. Ever since I was in middle school, I knew I wanted to work in the medical field. At first, I wanted to become a pediatrician, but as the years passed by, I decided I want to become a nurse. Specifically, a travel nurse that specializes in the NICU. I have narrowed my college options to three. I have always been interested in The University of Tennessee; they have an amazing nursing program and are very competitive. It would be perfect to attend school there; to potentially have a job directly at UT medical center. Also, UTK would be perfect because I do not want to move away or out of state. I plan to stay in TN for a while to be close to family as well. Then, the next two options are ETSU or South College. ETSU nursing is also an option but I would have to move out soon and unfortunately, it’s not part of my plan. Lastly, I have looked into South College and they actually have a nursing campus in Knoxville. They have various opportunities as well. So, I have those colleges in mind in case UTK does not work out due to the level of competitiveness. However, it does not discourage me as I believe I can’t see myself doing anything else. My goal is to attend nursing school, get my BSN, pass the NCLEX, work a year or two in the hospital, and hopefully become a travel nurse. That’s also why I think this internship would help as a form of guidance to open up my mind about a medical
