One of the many reasons I am eager to pursue Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is because of my calling. God has called me to serve others in a time when they are in their greatest need. A longing of mine is to serve, minister, and help people when they desire to be helped, and most of the time it is when they are in their greatest need. People tend to have their hearts soften when going through struggles and tribulations. A desire of mine is to capitalize on those moments, when they are willing to listen. I yearn to lift people’s spirits; whether it’s through prayer, a word of encouragement, or just listening to someone that needs to be heard. A passion of mine is to be able to help people be resilient, raise their morale, and encourage them to grow in their faith. As a chaplain in the Army this is what God has called me to do. My ambition is to learn and expand my knowledge and practices. A desire of mine is to improve my knowledge and skills to help others. This would assist me to learn more about myself, to be confident in my practices and be able to guide and support others to the best of my abilities. At times knowledge isn’t sufficient if it is not backed up with practices. This will be a great environment where to practice what I preach. CPE would help me exercise my hypothesis, and have real hands on to know for sure what works and what doesn’t work for me. Taking CPE would improve my confidence in order to better myself as a chaplain, counselor, and minister.
