Clinical Rotation Reflection

I would like to address the barriers and situation that occurred during the first week of my clinical rotation at Allina United. I understand that my lack of professionalism during the first few days have put my successful completion and graduation of the post baccalaureate nursing program in jeopardy. I would like to make a formal apology to the College of St. Scholastica faculty, my peers and the staff at United Hospital.
I recognize and understand that all students face difficult life situations during their academic career but all situations are different and mine is both uncommon and has proven to be a significant barrier to my success. Cloud. When the dust settled and I went to look for my St. Scholastica scrubs I was unable to locate them. So, on the first day of clinical I still showed up in scrubs but not in the required uniform. I understood then that I was noncompliant with the required uniform and I immediately approached my clinical preceptor and explained my situation and assured that the following day I would be wearing my St. Scholastica scrub top. At the end of day two our preceptor discussed the Allina nail polish policy. I had seen employees wearing polish that day so it caused some confusion. I should have taken the initiative to have called, emailed or texted my preceptor to clarify since I had misunderstood and regardless of what I observed I should have aired on the side of caution and tried to do everything in my power to remove the nexagen nail coat. It was not my intention to violate any patient safety precautions or disrespect any policies placed by the College or Allina.
This was a learning experience and if given the opportunity I will represent myself and the College of Saint Scholastica in a positive, professional manner. I understand that professionalism includes being on-time, prepared, wearing the designated uniform, and respecting the facility’s policies and procedures. I also understand that professionalism is also represented by having a positive attitude, demonstrate core values, taking full responsibility for my actions and committing to
