The Three Cats
Clive Barker’s Thief of Always is about a young boy named Harvey who is stuck in a fake but amazing world where every dream comes true. Mrs Griffin is a kind old woman living at the house. She owns three cats, Clue Cat, Blue cat, and Stew cat. The three cats have a very important hidden meaning which is revealed later in the story. The cats travel around the house, there goings unanswered and questioned. Each cat finds Harvey in a unique way. Stew cat, blue cat, and clue cat each lead Harvey in different ways, each way leading him to new discoveries and clues.

When Clue-cat dies, Barker exposes an interesting factor, Mrs griffin can’t cry. Wile mrs griffin is kneeling over her poor Clue-cats dead body, she says, “ "Foolish thing. Mrs griffin is shown as an emotional character who would normally cry. Clue cat likes new guests. When Harvey first comes to the house Mrs Griffin introduces the other two cats then says, “ I don't know where Clue-Cat is, but he'll find you. He likes new guest.”(15) This is similar to what Barker said about Stew-cat, maybe he is also another pleasure of the house. He is welcoming all new guests by liking them and being kind to them. Barkers portrays Stew-cat, in two different ways. A simple creation of Hood to welcome new guests. Or a key to a giant
