I find Charles Lewis to have a valid point by saying that this country is in fact very militant. The reason why I think he says we don 't want to associate ourselves with wanting to be militant is because of all of the horrible things that can happen during war. When watching why do we fight every president has always gone into another country and tried to do it so that it was as if they did something to up hold America 's freedom. America likes to police the world and most Americans agree with it, this makes them feel safe. I think the real truth though in this statement is that fighting as a nation is in our best interest and we all should support anything our country

This continuing cycle is called samsara, and the only escape from it is when a person reaches Moksha. Moksha is the Hindu resting place for the soul, or when a person is supposed to be united with Brahman, the Hindu God. Document 2 states, “To do that, individuals must free themselves from selfish desires that separates them from Brahman.” What life a person receives when they reincarnate is determined by a person’s karma, the consequences of one’s decisions in a future life. The kind of life people live is determined by caste, as since Hindus believe karma affects your future social status, a person is born into a caste, which is a variation of a social scale or a person’s position in society.

Guilt is an emotion that weighs the heaviest, and lingers the longest. Those who have encountered it in the past may recall that it is a devoid expanse that seems to permeate every part of your being. It’s only natural that Jon Krakauer felt such traces of guilt, because it once was all he knew, and that's hard to forget. He was a climber at heart, and the sprawling snow-capped mountains will always be burned into his memory. Even from the introduction one could tell that he was simply another mountaineer who loved climbing, and was put in a devastating situation.
This is my dawn. Real life…” Despite the hardship he is faced with of not being able to full preserve the body, McCandless gets back up and finds himself a stronger reborn man. Any person with moderate devotion to transcendentalism might have just broken down and given up there but if anything McCandless stood up 1 foot higher with his head held high. “I have had a happy life and thank the lord.”
The essay Black Men and Public Space by Brent Staples is very relatable to my life. I feel that it is easy to follow the essay since I live a similar life to Brent Staples every day because I am also African American. I read the everyday conflicts Staples goes through during his life in Chicago and New York and it was almost like I was him. Staples talks about how his skin color and the way he looks makes him seem like a threat to the general public. It seems that it is human nature to generalize and stereotype based on race or the way someone looks.
Brent Staples’s essay, “Just Walk on By: A Black Man and Public Space”, is about the “ability” that a black man holds; which as Staples puts it, is the “ability to alter public space in ugly ways.” African American men, or people for that matter, have stated (even in present day) that they feel the same way. This, among other factors has contributed to the fact that this essay has become very popular among different communities. As the writing prompt states, the essay has been anthologized, and obviously placed in One Hundred Great Essays. For reasons unknown, this particular essay has caught the eye of many.

Around the world there are many different cultures and religions. Even in small communities, for example the University of Arizona, there are a multitude of cultures and religions here on campus. Among all of these differences we share one thing in common, the circle of life. All humans go through this process, we are born, we live and we die, and in some religions, rebirth. The film Samsara by Ron Fricke is about the eternal circle of birth, suffering, death and rebirth.
