All throughout our lives we come across different people who may have very different styles of clothing. From the Bohemian look to the Sophisticated and Preppy to Gothic, people dress to fit what’s appropriate for their situation. There are, however, times when people dress how they feel rather than what may or may not be appropriate, like those who follow the Flamboyant look. Whatever the case, people dress based on how they feel and what’s going on in their lives. This concept is shared between a story by Nathaniel Hawthorne titled “The Minister’s Black Veil”, and my everyday life. We all wear clothes, how are you feeling today? Imagine you’re in church, waiting for your preacher to come in and begin. As he enters, everyone turns and looks toward him only to be followed by a feeling of discomfort. Your Preacher has covered his eyes and nose with a black piece of fabric, leaving you blind to his face but he can still see. What would you be thinking? Whatever their outlet, people are always comparing others to themselves. I usually dress casually, blue jeans, t-shirt, occasionally a jacket or sweatshirt. I dress this way because it’s what I feel most comfortable in, something I can move around and jump around in. Some days I feel like wearing a different color than the last or wearing the same color all week. What I wear tells others how I’m feeling that day. If I’m feeling bold, I’ll swap those pants for some shorts and that t-shirt for a tank top.
