Varsity Head Baseball Coach: Frank Mutz
- I interviewed my high school baseball coach on October 29, 2016 at approximately 7:29 pm at his house in Simi Valley, California.
- I chose to interview Coach Mutz because he impacted my life in so many ways. Not only did he bring a spiritual aspect into my baseball career, but he taught me what it is like to play with heart, grit, and sportsmanship. Needless to say, we had a good team; we won division 1 CIF and had one player on our team get drafted in the first round of the MLB draft. However, even with so many leaders on our team and a winning culture, Coach Mutz taught us to have respect for others and play the game the right way. Tyler: I want to focus on coaching on the field right now. What strategies do you use in communicating with players on the field?
Coach Mutz: You know it best. I do lose my control, but after finding God, I have tried to constrain myself and think before I speak. I try to only speak positively and constructively.
Tyler: What about communicating with parents?
Coach Mutz: Oh boy. I try to ignore them during games. I just try to respect them; however, at times, they get rowdy and personally attack me.
Tyler: When you are preparing for the baseball season, what do you tell your players to do?
Coach Mutz: I tell them to eat healthy, start conditioning, throwing, getting bullpens, and hitting the cages.
Tyler: Being the varsity baseball coach is a huge responsibility? How do you manage this job with your family and home life?
Coach Mutz: Once I get in my car after baseball practice, I put all my focus on spending time with my family and my kids. In the past, I didn’t show them enough appreciation and now, I just love them to death and appreciate them so
