"There are many essentials in starting, building, and maintaining a successful basketball and football program. Some of the different parts include a cohesive coaching staff, a program philosophy, a commitment to the character development of players, and the development of yearly traditions. During the season, coaches can use team meetings before or after practice to discuss scouting reports, philosophy, team expectations, and character development. Coaches should use technology such as text messages, Twitter, or Facebook to get important information to the players during the season. Another vital aspect of coaches' and players' communication should be that it is always clear, concise, and positive. During practice, coaches should use positive reinforcement. When a coach looks to correct something, he should use a positive statement, followed by the coaching correction, and then end with a positive statement of encouragement.
