This memo is to address the concerns that our miners in the application mountains are currently facing. The power struggle between the coal mining elites and the workers has reached new heights as the workers’ put their health on the line to work in the mines and they are not receiving the pay and healthcare that is fair for this type of work. Power needs to go back to the average mine worker as corporations have taken advantage and over worked the miners without pay that justifies their sacrifices. We have to work on protecting our coal mine workers and to get started on doing just that we propose a policy that will give coal miners rights and information when it comes to representation, wages, and the right express concerns that they have. …show more content…

In this dimension of power, we have a power struggle between two groups of people, the miners and the coal mining elite. This dimension of power is seen when one group has complete power over the other and all possible forms of resistance are not possible because of the power the coal mining elite has. When dealing with this dimension of power obstacles, barriers and frustration is built up by those in power to try and not only fight resistance but to also protect their own interests. This dimension of power the coal mining elite has resources over the miners meaning that they can go the distance with the coal miners when it comes to protesting. This policy ties into the other dimensions of power as this gives rights to the workers which is lacking throughout the three dimensions. This policy automatically gives rights to the coal miners and empowers them in that they know their rights and know what resources they can use when dealing with these types of situations. Ideally this policy intends to empower the coal miners and give them the rights that they are lacking. It is no secret that the coal mining elite do certain things behind the scenes that are in no question in violation not only worker rights but civil rights. With the implementation of this policy we would see a substantial improvement in the coal mining industry as workers will become more empowered and less scared to express how they are truly feeling in the work place. Intimidation in the work place is also an issue that this policy will look to cut down on as the workers have the right to feel safe in their workplace. The abuse these coal miners were facing got to a point where they realized that their actions were not working and felt “fading of conception of action itself,” to where they felt powerless of their situation. (Power 92). The strengths of this policy are that it focuses on giving resources to the miners such as legal counsel which is something that has gotten the better of the average coal miner as they cannot compete with the financial strength of those in power. The weakness of this policy would be getting the funds needed to pay for the new resources that this policy offers. Solutions to this problem would be to have the coal mining elite pay out more to its workers in not only wages but these benefits as well. Working together with the federal government and the coal
